A management system so consistent and predictable that consequences teach instead of escalate. A classroom set up so students meet expectations the first time. Strategies you can use the next school day.

He has sat on both sides of the office door.

Dr. Johnny Alvarado grew up in Sanger, California, and started teaching middle and high school in Sanger Unified in 1995. He has been a principal in Clovis Unified and Fresno Unified, at Kastner Intermediate School and Bullard High School. He was director of charter schools and an executive leadership coach at the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, chief academic officer at Selma Unified, and assistant superintendent at Parlier Unified.

He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration (accountancy) and a master's degree and doctorate in educational leadership, all at Fresno State. Before and between those degrees he worked early mornings at UPS, tutored math, ran his own yard care business, and worked in the Central Valley's fields. He is the oldest of six, and all six went into education.

Johnny brings confidence, laughter, and best of all, practical solutions to his fellow teachers.

Today he trains teachers and administrators in Time To Teach®, the classroom management system from the Center for Teacher Effectiveness, and he is one of the authors of its Planning Guide, the workbook a leadership team uses to build its school-wide plan. He has trained throughout the United States and in Canada.

What he brings to a training is the administrator's view that teachers rarely hear: what changes a whole building, what falls apart the week after the presenter leaves, and how one classroom becomes the proof. His sessions come down to three things: a management system so consistent and predictable that consequences teach instead of escalate, a classroom set up so students meet expectations the first time, and strategies teachers can use the next school day.
